Update! Brian just passed his GED! Many more employment opportunites have opened up for Brian now-Congratulations Brian and thank you Odette for your great tutoring!
"My name is Brian L. I came to Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County in April of 2010. I came to get my GED, but found that this place was much more than that. Everyone here is so nice and really cares about the students.
Students here work one-on-one with the tutors. My favorite part about the whole program happens to be my assigned tutor. My tutor's name is Mrs. Hice. She helps me in many ways. She has been preparing me to take the Math portion of the GED test. I stopped going to school in the 11th grade. This tutor is by far the best for me, because she really understands my learning needs and style.
With the help of Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County and Mrs. Hice, I am positive that I will pass my GED test. I will also bring what I learned here at Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County with me to my future goals, which I have set. This program has motivated me to not only pass my GED test but I also intend to go on and take college courses!"
We train volunteers to provide free tutoring in Basic English and English as a Second Language (ESL) to adults in Chautauqua County.
We prepare residents to take entrance tests for technical programs such as electrician's apprentice, to pass the citizenship test, and to obtain the equivalent of a high school diploma, the GED.
